CONDUCTING COURSE

CONDUCTING COURSE

TEACHER
Marco Boni

The course of conducting, designed to supplement and complement music education at the Academy of Imola, is aimed primarily at students of the Academy, but can also be extended to external students.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE
The project, unique in Italy, aims to analyze some issues that are not usually detailed in music education institutions as:
- a deep understanding of the gestures of the conductor
- the analysis of the problems of making music together with an orchestra
- the proper management of the relationship with the orchestra.
In addition, the course aims to provide a specific level of practical preparation with the objective of considering conduction as a possible career together with the solist one.

COURSE STRUCTURE
The course of direction is divided into three phases:

a) Theorical lectures on gestures, issues of interpretation, and execution, together with learning the technicalities of the various instrumental sections, in particular arches. Studies of psychology in the interaction with artistic groups, and use of the correct language to be used in any occasion and with any orchestra. Analysis of the gestures of past and contemporary directors, through the study of audiovisual material.

b) Parthian Lessons with two pianists working as an orchestra directed by the students.
It may be possible, upon request, to use Conducting Technical English.

c) A series of practical exercises with the orchestra of the Academy. The lessons include symphonic and chamber music repertoire with orchestra, for solo instrument and with voice. The exercises will comprise classical and contemporary music.

ADMISSION
The course is open to all students of the Academy. Any admission of external students has to be discussed with the teacher.
