Franco Scala, born in Imola and former pupil of Alfredo Casella, graduated from the Conservatorio G.B. Martini in Bologna with the teacher Gherardo Mecarini Carmignani, and then continued his studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Maestro Carlo Zecchi.

After having performed in many concerts both in Italy and abroad, he has dedicated his life to teaching. For 30 years he has been a teacher at the Conservatory "Gioacchino Rossini" in Pesaro, where he distinguished himself for his innovative way of teaching. As a result of this activity he has been repeatedly invited, together with his class of young pianistsm, in various Italian conservatories. Franco Scala givess master classes both in Italy and abroad, and he is constantly invited to be part of the juries of the most important competitions.

Many of his students have won the most prestigious international competitions ("Franz Liszt" Utrecht; "Arthur Rubinstein" Tel Aviv, "Van Cliburn" Fort Worth, Texas; "Ferruccio Busoni" Bolzano "GPA" Dublin, "Franz Schubert" Dortmund, Prix d'Honneur "Santander" Spain, etc..).

He is the founder and director of the International Piano Academy "Incontri col Maestro".
