BORIS PETRUSHANSKY - Piano

Boris Petrushansky's highly original creativity and vivacious personality have gained him worldwide recognition as a concert pianist.
Born in 1949 in Moscow, he started playing the piano at the age of five and had among his teachers the eminent Heinrich Neuhaus. Following his studies with Lev Naumov, he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1975, having already distinguished himself in such major international competitions as the Leeds in 1969, the A.R.D. Munich in 1971, and the "Casagrande" in Terni in 1975, where he won first prize.


Ever since the summer of 1975, during which he gave two memorable recitals, at the “Festival dei due Mondi” in Spoleto and the “Maggio Musicale Fiorentino” Festival (standing in for Richter) in Florence, Petrushansky has not looked back. His performances have taken him to Australia, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United States. He has recorded for Melodiya (Russia), Art & Electronics (Russia/U.S.A.), Symposium (U.K.), Agora, Dynamic, Fone, and Stradivarius (Italy).


The many orchestras he has performed with include the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Russian State Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, the Berlin Staatskapelle, the Orchestra of the Santa Cecilia Academy, the “Maggio Musicale Fiorentino” Festival Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the European Community Chamber Orchestra, the “New European Strings”, and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, among others.


He has worked with many distinguished conductors, such as J. Ferencik, M. Atzmon, V. Fedoseev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Valery Gergiev, A. Lazarev, P. Bellugi, S. Sondezkis, Lu Jia, Roberto Abbado, Maxim Shostakovich, V. Sinajsky, and V. Jurowsky. Numbered among his partners, to name but a few, have been the legendary Leonid Kogan, Misha Maisky, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Valeriy Afanassiev, the Borodin Quartet, and the Philharmonia Quartett Berlin.


Boris Petrushansky is a member of jury of several international competitions such as the F. Busoni (Bolzano), D. B. Viotti (Vercelli), A. Casagrande (Terni), Fryderyk Chopin (Warsaw), Tongyeong (South Korea), Orléans, Paris, etc.. In addition to his concert activities, Boris Petrushansky is active in the teaching field. From 1975 to 1979 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory and now gives Master Classes at the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin, at both the Royal Academy and the Royal College in London, at Rowan University in New Jersey, in Japan, Germany, France, South Korea and Italy.

He is now resident in Italy and since 1990 has been a tutor at the Accademia Pianistica Internazionale “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola.
